The Catalonia Aragon or Hotel Aragon as it is also
known, has inherited the name of the street in which it is located:
Aragó Street. This is a convenient street in terms of transport
and you will be able to use it to quickly access any part of the
city. And if you like Antoni Gaudí's work, the Sagrada Familia
church is just a few metres from the hotel!
The Hotel Aragon was extended and renovated in 1999 and now offers
161 rooms all fully equipped with air conditioning, direct dial
telephone, safe deposit box, satellite TV, Canal + and complete
bathroom with a hair dryer.
The hotel has a restaurant, a coffee bar and parking facilities.
Near the hotel you will find one of the city's most famous churches:
the Sagrada Familia. Antoni Gaudí designed it more than
a century ago, and although it is not yet finished, you can admire
the Nativity façade, the older of the two façades,
the central apse and the "Passion" façade. If
you still have time, visit the museum, the central nave and go
up one of the church's eight bell-towers. The view there is breathtaking:
you will see the building structure and of course, most of the
city.
Since Roman times, the administrative and religious centre of
the city has always been in what is known today as the Gothic quarter.
There you can visit the Cathedral, the Pia Almoina or the Plaça
del Rei. Not far from this part of town you will find the Ribera
quarter that will remind you of Medieval times. Next to it you
will find the Plaça del Born (Born Square), where jousts
and tournaments used to be held in the Middle Ages. You can then
take a walk along Montcada Street and have a look at the countless
palaces from the 15th and 16th centuries. The Picasso Museum is
located in the same area.
The mountain of Montjuïc has plenty of interesting places
to visit such as the Fundació Miró, the National
Art Museum of Catalunya or the Poble Espanyol, a small village
that reproduces popular Spanish architecture. If you prefer going
for a walk, there is a vast array of parks and gardens to pick
from. Whatever you choose, we highly recommend going up to the
castle for its breathtaking view of the city. On the second day,
if you feel like buying a present, you can go to the Barcelona
Glòries and La Maquinista shopping centres where you will
have a wide range of leisure activities from which to choose.
These are just a few suggestions. The Hotel Aragon reception will
be able to provide more information and suggestions for activities
during your stay in Barcelona.
